I have no personal beef with Tru-Green or any other turf management company. Many people use them and some like them. However, here is a legal case that may interest you.

A Tennessee woman’s lawsuit against Tru-Green was thrown out. She kept getting robo telemarketing calls even though she repeatedly asked them to stop. Plus her number was on the telemarketing “No Call List”. Seems like a slam dunk, right? No exactly.

When someone hires Tru-Green they have to sign a contract. Somewhere in the contract is language that says that they have the right to continue to call with service offers even after a customer stopped using them.

Plus, when you sign with them you also sign away your right to bring any class action lawsuit against them.

As a result the judge followed the contract language, since she was a previous customer, and threw her lawsuit out. Even though Tru-Green has just about guaranteed they will never again get her as a customer, they have the right to continue to call as often as they like.

I have personally never hired a turf management company so I don’t know if others use the same language. Just be sure to read your contract carefully. You may find yourself changing your phone number, then hoping they never find it, just to keep them from continuously calling.
